Lyliana's Surviving Story

As far as we know this is the story of a survivor. This case is an example of how a Fetal Ultrasound in time can safe a life... For more information click here!

Submited by Lilyana's parents

Lilyana was conceived in June of 2007 and was a highly unexpected surprise.

Mommy was very sick and being checked into the hospital when the doctors wanted to run some tests. Mommy said she was very sure she wasn't pregnant but the doctors said they needed to double check. Well about 30 minutes later the doctor comes in and goes...oh did you know your pregnant?... Mommy was in shock so she called daddy, and daddy was in shock.

I wasn't planned but I am very wanted. Mommy had a few scares while in the hospital, she started bleeding very badly, they thought she was losing me but boy where they wrong... I wasn't going to give up that easily.

They think mommy lost a twin but they aren't 100% sure; So finally mommy got to go home, she was very weak and tired and I was thriving inside... I guess you can say I was taking all of mommy's energy... I don't think she minded to much, she got to sleep all day.

I should mention I am going to be the little sister of the family, I have two nosey older brothers, Lucas(4) and Austin(2). Let me tell you they have no respect for personal boundaries! They were with Grandma and Grandpa through all of this.

Mommy tried to go back to work but that didn't work out for to long, she ended up getting sick again and was put on bed rest. Needless to say, mommy quit her job for mine and her own well being, she became a full time stay at home mommy again and was feeling pretty well.

As I grew she began to grow, Mommy and daddy found out I was a little girl on October 10th 2007, mommy was super excited. The Ultrasound ( Ultra Sound) tech then noticed something wasn’t right with my heart but she wasn't sure at the time. She then told mommy she needed to come back so they could look again. Mommy went back on October 24th to check again, that was when she found out something was wrong. The Ultrasound tech couldn’t say what but she made mommy wait to see the doctor. The doctor came in and told mommy that something was wrong with the left side of the heart and they needed to send her to have another Ultrasound to look in extensive detail what was going on.

So on November 1st, mommy and daddy headed to the prenatal to get some worse news, they found out that day that the left side of my heart was to small to do what it needed to do. They were told it is called Hypo plastic Left Heart Syndrome or (HLHS).

They were then referred to a pediatric cardiologist (November 14th 2007) where they were then told that I also have Double-Outlet Right ventricle along with a hole in my heart and I would have to undergo surgery soon after I was born to begin the steps to trying to repair my heart

Mommy and daddy have yet to meet the surgeon, they are going January 11th 2008. They will meet the doctor and also have a repeat fetal Echo done to see if my aorta is getting any smaller....
which the doctors fear it will. So we found out at the repeat fetal that my aorta got a Tiny bit bigger but the left side of my heart got smaller.

I am putting on weight well and looking good in mommy’s belly. They say me being as active as I am helps me. It says it shows I have a lot of strength. That makes mommy happy

I have several things going on with my heart. I have the HLHS they originally told mommy about along with the DORV, I also have Dextrocardia Situs Inverses , VSD-a hole in my heart, Pulmonary Stenos is (PS),and Coarctation of the Aorta. Needless to say I have quite a few things going on with my little heart.

I am due to come out Feb 28th....they are inducing my mommy at 5 in the morning...we will see if I wait until then.

So she was born with multiple CHD's ( Congenital Heart Defects) the 29th of February and in a leap year and here are some pictures with her story and a Video too.
